About Kruger Shalati

The Kruger Shalati is a one-of-a-kind hotel situated as a gateway to South Africa’s Kruger National Park. A refurbished railway serves as the hotel’s foundation, and the refurbished train hotel is permanently stationed on Selati Bridge, high above the Sabie River.

There are 31 luxurious rooms available at the hotel, all of which look out into the magnificent park and its abundant wildlife. The unique overhanging pool with a view like no other sits on the bridge itself, which guests can use to enjoy a unique viewing experience.

The hotel is perfectly positioned in the heart of Big 5 territory and allows guests to easily spot a multitude of wildlife. Relax and take in the sights on game drives or guided walks through the park. If you’re searching for a once-in-a-lifetime safari experience in Africa, look no further than Kruger Shalati.

History and Background

Kruger Shalati is a unique hotel that has an interesting history and background. The hotel is built on a restored train that was originally used as a railway bridge over the Sabie River in the Kruger National Park. The train was built in the 1920s and operated until the 1970s when it was decommissioned. In 2018, the train was restored and transformed into a luxury hotel, offering guests a unique experience in the heart of the African bush.

The name of the train was inspired by Shalati, an African warrior queen. There are traces of Shalati’s reign that may be traced back to the nineteenth century. She is said to have been the first female warrior chief of the Tebula, a subtribe of the Tsonga people who resided in the wilderness near the Murchison Range in modern-day Limpopo Province.

Kruger Shalati is not just a hotel, but a celebration of South Africa’s rich history and natural beauty. The hotel’s design is inspired by the train’s original features, with each room offering stunning views of the surrounding park and wildlife.
