Enjoy old-world luxury in Rovos Rail’s wood-panelled coaches, with accommodation for a maximum of 72 guests. The train consists of the locomotive, generator car, staff car, guest sleepers, non-smoking lounge car which can accommodate 26 guests, two non-smoking dining cars, a smoking lounge car, and the observation car with ample space for 32 guests at the end of the train. The rebuilt sleeper coaches with en-suite bathrooms combine the original fittings with all the modern amenities one would require from a 5 star stay.

Premier Classe came into existance in 2001, hooking its only two coaches to the Transkaroo Tourist service running between Johannesburg and Cape Town. By 2006 Premier Classe launched its full train set running between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Where Premier Classe originally carried 28 passengers, it could now accommodate 84 passengers. In November 2007 a refurbished Premier Classe set joined the service, with added features like dining/lounge cars, a conference coach and a smoking lounge, more spacious compartments and upgraded bathrooms.

The Shongololo Express, based at Rovos Rail’s station in Pretoria, began operations in 1995 to provide a very special touring experience for visitors to Southern Africa. The three journeys of between 12 to 15 days offer tours that traverse South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. 72 guests are accommodated in two categories of comfortable en-suite cabins with double or twin beds.
